The Postal Regulatory Commission has issued an order remanding the final determination to close the historic Fernandina Beach post office on Amelia Island, Florida. Presumably that will hold up the sale of the building as well. There’s some background on the sale here. The Postal Service filed a Motion to Dismiss the appeal based on the view that the post office was part of a reallignment of retail services, but the Public Representative said it was a clear case of a “consolidation,” a conversion of a post office to a contract postal unit, since the Postal Service had told the community they could use the new CPU it was opening. The PRC remand order is here. We’ll have more on the decision later.
