The Anniston Star: Home for a handful of days from college in 1977, waiting for the results of his exam with the Alabama State Bar Admission office, Bill Broome couldn’t sleep.He got up early. Broome, now an Anniston attorney, knew the results would be in the mail. So around 5:30 that morning, he woke up the postmaster, Nellie Gunter.“She let me go through the bag” on the post office’s back steps, Broome recalled, to find the news: “I passed.”This weekend, Broome was back at that post office, near those same back steps.
